Overview

Four days away from the beaten track and tourist clichés, immersed in the most authentic slopes of Monte Rosa. Together, we will discover the most beautiful descents in Freeride Paradise using the MonterosaSki lift system. There may also be some short climbs using climbing skins to reach additional routes. We will start on gentle slopes before moving on to more challenging terrain, learning how to lay tracks and choose the best route. We will delve into how to plan a trip, self-rescue techniques, and give you excellent advice on the most suitable equipment.

It can be a little complex to define the exact skiing level required, so generally for this type of course we ask for a self-declaration as an expert skier, meaning that you can safely and competently tackle all types of slopes in any snow conditions, and that you are in good physical shape.  As this is a course, you are here to learn, and we will make progress to grow together and build your confidence.

Programme

The day begins around 08:30, usually meeting in Staffal. Together, we will check our gear and have a brief briefing on how to use the avalanche transceiver, shovel, and probe, as well as introducing our chosen route based on the snow and weather conditions. There will be a break for lunch during the day, before we continue with our adventure. The day typically winds up around 16:00. Depending on your abilities and preferences, we will choose the most suitable routes together, ensuring a safe, enjoyable, and tailor-made experience for the group.

What to know before you set off

Mountaineering is by its very nature an adventurous activity. The Monte Rosa guides, all of whom are UIAGM certified, are dedicated to doing everything possible to minimise any hazards, but a element of risk is always present and should be embraced as part of the adventure before signing up for our activities.

The Monte Rosa Guides will always do their utmost to help you achieve your personal goals and ensure you have the best possible experience in nature. However, you must agree to trust their professional judgement whilst in the mountains and respect any decision they make, including turning back, should it be deemed necessary. Being well-prepared and maintaining a good level of physical fitness is essential to ensure a safe and enjoyable journey on all our excursions. If, due to fitness levels or any other reason, your guide feels you are not quite ready for your chosen activity, they will happily suggest alternative adventures beautifully suited to your current level of preparation.
