Overview

The Ferrata Ciao Miki is a short but intense route, characterised by a great variety of sections that make it highly stimulating. The itinerary features four towers with vertical walls to climb, interspersed with horizontal traverses, gentle descents and some slightly overhanging sections. The complete hike to the summit of Mont Mars is quite long, and the ridge path linking the end of the ferrata to the peak requires careful attention. The Ferrata Ciao Miki is exposed and, in some sections, demanding. While not technically difficult, the climbing is very varied; do take care on the subsequent ridge path which, although not a true mountaineering route, certainly retains the characteristics of one. Sure-footedness and experience are essential due to both the lack of escape routes and the exposure of the individual sections.

Period: from May to September

Programme

We meet at Pian Coumarial to check our gear and enjoy a brief introduction to the via ferrata. Setting off from Pian Coumarial, we make our way to Col Chardon, passing beautiful lakes and scenic trails along the way. We begin our climb on a well-equipped tower, making our way past the rock pillars with short passages that are never too difficult. The final section becomes an assisted trail that leads us to the Passo della Capra, from where we hike up to the summit of Mont Mars. We then descend the opposite slope, passing via Col Goudin and the lovely Gaudin Lake, before returning to the car park through beautiful alpine pastures and woodlands.

Elevation gain: 380 m and 800 m

What to know before you set off

Mountaineering is by its very nature an adventurous activity. The Monte Rosa guides, all of whom are UIAGM certified, are dedicated to doing everything possible to minimise any hazards, but a element of risk is always present and should be embraced as part of the adventure before signing up for our activities.

The Monte Rosa Guides will always do their utmost to help you achieve your personal goals and ensure you have the best possible experience in nature. However, you must agree to trust their professional judgement whilst in the mountains and respect any decision they make, including turning back, should it be deemed necessary. Being well-prepared and maintaining a good level of physical fitness is essential to ensure a safe and enjoyable journey on all our excursions. If, due to fitness levels or any other reason, your guide feels you are not quite ready for your chosen activity, they will happily suggest alternative adventures beautifully suited to your current level of preparation.
