Overview
The Breithorn is considered one of the most accessible 4,000-metre peaks in the Alps.
Even though, like all peaks above a certain altitude, it should not be underestimated, it is highly recommended for anyone wishing to test their abilities at high altitudes and take their first steps into mountaineering.
There are two options: hike up from Cervinia to Plateau Rosà, or take the cable car to the Piccolo Cervino. The second option reduces the elevation gain to the summit to just 400 m, but can be quite expensive. The solution we suggest is to head up from Cervinia to Plateau Rosa in the early afternoon and spend the night at the Teodulo refuge, which is just a few minutes' walk from the top of the cable car.
By doing this, you can make an early start in the morning and tackle the ascent with plenty of time to enjoy the journey in peace.
Season: From June to September
Programme
FIRST DAY:
We will meet in Cervinia around 14:00 at the ski lift ticket office. After a quick gear check, we will take the cable car up to Plateau Rosa (3400 m). From here, it is just a few minutes to the mountain hut, where, before dinner, we will break out the maps and plan our exciting route for the following day.
SECOND DAY:
From the Teodulo refuge, we will ascend alongside the ski slopes to the Breithorn Pass (3806 m). From the pass, crossing the beautiful plateau at the foot of the peak, we will tackle the final steep section that leads us straight to the summit (4160 m).
After taking a few moments to soak in the breathtaking panoramic views, enjoy a quick snack and have a drink of water, we will begin our descent along the same route back to the cable car station to return to Cervinia. The ascent takes about 2 to 3 hours, and we expect to be back in the afternoon.
