Overview
Pollux, a 4,000-metre peak standing proud and isolated over the Verra Glacier, offers the ultimate vantage point looking out towards the Matterhorn and the entire Monte Rosa chain. Its summit is a majestic ice cap supported by beautiful rocky ribs, making it the perfect ascent for those who have already climbed Signalkuppe (Punta Gnifetti) and Castor and wish to progressively step into the world of technical mountaineering. The climb beautifully combines glacier techniques, snowy ridges, moderate rock climbing, and sections equipped with fixed ropes.
Season: From June to September
Programme
FIRST DAY:
We meet in St. Jacques in the morning. From there, we take a 4x4 to reach Pian di Verra Superiore. We begin our ascent towards the Guide di Ayas refuge (3420 m), where we will have dinner and spend the night. The landscape here already immerses us in the beautiful high-altitude environment.
SECOND DAY:
At dawn, we set off for our climb. We tackle an initial rocky stretch up to an altitude of 3980 m, where a short via ferrata begins, leading us to a scenic panoramic balcony. From there, we traverse the snowy ridge up to the summit cap of Pollux. After a well-deserved break at the peak, we return along the same route, enjoying a refreshing stop at the Guide di Ayas refuge before descending to Piani di Verra. The return journey by 4x4 brings this wonderful day to a close.
Difficulty: PD+ (grade I/II passages and a grade III/III+ section)
Duration of the climb:

– Ascent to the summit: approx. 3 hours
