Punta Zumstein 4563 m con Capanna Margherita

Day 1
Meeting with the guide and equipment check before departure. After reaching Punta Indren with the ski lifts, we prepare to tackle the ascent to Refuge Mantova. The short and not too challenging route will help you to get used to using the equipment and learn the proper technique for ascending and descending with ski mountaineering gear.

Day 2

At first light of dawn, after attaching the skins to our skis, we set off towards Colle del Lys to reach the glacier basin of Grentz, dominated by Capanna Margherita at Punta Gnifetti. The ascent does not present particularly challenging passages or exposed sections, and we will cross areas where crevasses are present but, with the assistance of the mountain guide, we’ll adopt the necessary behaviour to tackle the glacier. The greatest obstacle is represented by the possible onset of altitude sickness, which could occur during the night at the refuge once we have exceeded 3500m. The objective of the climb is to reach two important 4000m peaks: Punta Zumstein by passing through Colle del Papa and Punta Gnifetti, which offers a balcony view of the south face of Monte Rosa.
