International mountaineering tour of Monte Rosa

Different perspectives to discover Monte Rosa on both the Swiss and Italian sides with one goal in mind: experiencing the magic of its peaks.

Program

Day 1
Meeting with your guide at the ticket office at the Staffal ski lift at 2.30 pm, equipment checks and ascent on the ski lift to Punta Indren (3270 m)
An approximate 1-hour hike to Refuge Citta di Mantova (3498 m). Dinner and overnight.

Day 2
Ascent to Pyramid Vincent (4215 m), to Cristo delle Vette (4167 m), to Ludwigshöhe (4342 m) and to the highest refuge in Europa, Refuge Capanna Margherita on Gnifetti Peak at 4554 m.  Dinner and overnight.

Day 3
Ascent to Zumstein peak at 4561 m, the third highest peak on Monte Rosa, descent along the Grenz glacier to Rotenboden (2815 m). From there, taking the Gornergrat Zermatt train and then the Klein Matterhorn ski lifts (3883 m), we will go up to Refuge Teodulo at 3017 meters where your dinner and overnight stay will be in the company of Matterhorn.

Day 4
From Refuge Teodulo we will hike up to the Breithorn pass and cross under the south walls of the Breithorn and Polluce peaks,and climb the west wall of Castore Peak to reach its summit (4226 m). Descent to Refuge Quintino Sella (3585 m) where we will stop to rest before continuing our hike to Colle della Bettaforca and Gressoney.

Breithorn and Polluce Peaks can be included in this programme. Ask for a quote.

Difficulty: from F to PD – a hike on the glacier with sections of the hike on the ridge.

 

  • 5 layers of clothing for the upper body (thermal shirt, light fleece, heavy fleece, down jacket, anorak.)
  • two set of gloves (soft and ski ones)
  • sunglasses (with 3 or 4 protection)
  • heavy trousers (windproof)
  • underpants
  • gaiters
  • rigid, ankle height, waterproof boots.
  • two pair of ski socks
  • headlamp
  • hat that covers your ears
  • bag sheet for the hut
  • sun screen & lip balm
  • poles
  • ice axe (if are used to it)
  • helmet is recommended but not compulsory
  • 1lt water bottle/thermos
  • harness & crampons

The price includes:

guide for the 4-day tour, technical equipment.

The price DOES NOT include:

the ski lifts, half board for customers and the guide in the refuge (paid by the group) and  the cost of the Gornegrat train ride are not included

Other details

Given the significant physical effort needed for this program, this trail is reserved for enthusiasts with excellent altitude training.

Mountaineering is a dangerous activity by nature, the Monte Rosa guides, all UIAGM certified, undertake to do everything possible to minimize the dangers but the risk can never be eliminated and must be accepted before registering for the our activities.

The Monte Rosa Guides will always do their best to help you achieve your goals and ensure you have the best possible experience; however you must agree to rely on their unquestionable judgment while you are in the mountains and to respect any decision they make, including the return, if it is deemed necessary. Being adequately prepared and having a minimum standard of fitness is necessary to maintain an adequate margin of safety in our activities. If, due to your physical condition or for any other reason, your guide decides that you are not ready for the activity you have chosen, you will be offered alternatives adapted to your level of preparation.
